The world lost a wonderful woman this week.  Michael’s grandmother passed away at the age of eighty-eight.  She was so very special to us, and we loved her dearly.  I can’t tell you how much we are going to miss her.  We loved to have her over for dinner (always salmon, she loved salmon and never cooked it for herself), she would read to the children, give them coins from her purse, and tickle them.  She would talk about politics & current events with Michael, and discuss all of the books she had been reading with me.   We often traded stories, her telling me about her children when they were young, and me telling her about my children’s antics. And she loved to tell us stories about her childhood.  My grandma often joined us for these dinners as well, and the two became close, I loved to listen to the two of them reminisce together.  These two amaze, and inspire me.  I’m lucky to have them both as role models.
Michael’s grandmother was fun-loving, always caring and fiercely independent.  She was one of the strongest women I have known, and an incredibly classy lady.  A wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  And although my heart aches, I take comfort right now in the knowledge that she is watching over our family.  We are all going to miss her.
