The Butterflies have moved on to another city, and Krohn Conservatory has opened a TASTY new exhibit!  The Edible Landscape is on display from now The Edible Landscape at Krohn Conservatoryuntil August 24th.  You can not only visit the conservatory and see a multitude of edible plants growing, but you can also purchase your own plants there AND you can attend classes!  There’s so much going on.  We loved walking around and looking at all of the plants ripening and growing into food that will be on the table in a matter of weeks.  We saw tomatoes, peppers, edible flowers, apples, a papaya tree, and much much more.  There’s a handy dandy binder available to show you what the different plants are, and each plant is labeled with not only the name of the plant, but a recipe idea for something you can do with that fruit, vegetable or herb.  I’m a big proponent of teaching our children where food comes from, and how it’s important to eat good food from farms, so this was a great way to get them up close and personal to a wide variety of growing veggies and fruits and such.

Thanks to eReach Cincinnati you have a chance to take your family to The Edible Landscape at Krohn Conservatory too!  I’m giving away tickets (enter below) or you can visit eReach Cincinnati to grab a coupon for a discounted ticket!  First take a look at some pictures from our visit and then enter to win your own tickets!

The 2014 Summer Show at the Krohn Conservatory features a landscape filled with summer annuals and edible plants.  Included among the plants are fruits and vegetables, edible trees and shrubs, and new, top rated plants from All America Selections.  The show demonstrates how a carefully planned landscape design can create a residential garden that is both attractive and productive. The show designer is Josh Hill, horticulturist at Krohn Conservatory.  Show krohn-conservatory-edible-landscapes-logo (2)hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 10 AM until 5 PM, Closed Mondays.  Admission is $4 adults, $2 children, with 4 and under free.

Workshop highlight:  New this year, Krohn is offering workshops in connection with the exhibit.  From Edible Flowers to The Edible Classroom: Aeroponics for Teachers and Family Food Camps, where you can learn more about how to grow and prepare healthy food choices for your family, there’s something for everyone.  Some workshops require pre-registration and a small fee.  More information and links to register can be found on the Krohn Conservatory website: 2014 Summer Show: Edible Landscapes.
