Bluegrass For BabiesIn just a few short weeks folks from all over the region will come together at Sawyer Point to help raise money for Children’s Hospital by listening to cool bluegrass music, eating healthy food, drinking local brews, enjoying hands on crafts and activities with the kids and shopping from local merchants. The 6th annual Bluegrass for Babies concert takes place on September 20th from 3-9pm and it’s going to be a fantastic event. I can say this with certainty because my family attended last year and we had a wonderful afternoon. We have plans to return again this year for more fun. My kids loved working on a collaborative painting, listening to great music, snacking on healthy food for lunch (check out some great snacks for babies here), doing crafts with the Carnegie, walking near the Ohio River, and doing all of the great kids activities that were going on. I liked the fact that the kids ate free with a paid adult’s meal and that there were no junk food options to argue with them about. I also like doing a little shopping with the great vendors like Park + Vine.

As I said, Bluegrass for Babies is a great day of fun, and a great event for families. If you order your event tickets now they are $15, or $20 at the gate, with the funds raised by The Healthy Roots Foundation going to Children’s Hospital. Kids are FREE! You can order your tickets here: www.healthyrootsfoundation.org. Or you can enter to win two tickets below (plus a FREE pizza from Mama Mimi Pizza).

More Details about the Bluegrass for Babies Concert ::Bluegrass for Babies Painting

Launched in 2009, the concert started as a way for founders Matt and Anne Schneider to give back to Cincinnati Children’s, which had provided life-saving surgery to their then newborn son. That year the couple repurposed their annual backyard bluegrass party, turning it into a successful fundraiser for the hospital, which has since raised over $100,000.
“Our lives were forever changed because of the care we received from the physicians at Cincinnati Children’s,” said co-founder Anne Schneider. “We created Bluegrass for Babies to not only raise funds for the hospital, but with the goal to also also educate parents on raising healthy children.”

The concert lineup features performances by Ma Crow & The Lady Slippers, Comet Bluegrass All-Stars, and Hickory Robot. Ma Crow & The Lady Slippers will kick things off, performing at 3:00pm with the Comet Bluegrass All-Stars taking to the stage at 5:00pm. Rounding out the evening at 6:45 pm will be Hickory Robot. Special guest Jennifer Ellis will perform her popular children’s songs at 4:15pm.

This year marks the first that Bluegrass for Babies is being produced under the Healthy Roots Foundation name, a change that occurred in August of 2014. The need for Foundation became apparent as Bluegrass for Babies evolved from the concert into a year-round organization providing tools, programming and resources as well as to hosting a variety of special events.

In line with the foundation’s mission to help parents create an environment to raise healthy children, Bluegrass for Babies concert attendees will have the opportunity to partake in five interactive experiences – Farmer’s Market, Healthy Home, Family Wellness, Music & Art, and Movement.

Farmer’s Market: Nutrition and food are key components of setting the foundation for healthy lives. The Farmer’s Market features real, non-processed food options like apples, local sustainably raised burgers, gluten-free grilled cheeses, locally made desserts, and more. And, none of the food or drink options contain any high fructose corn syrup.

Healthy Home: The Healthy Home Experience features activities provided by local experts on home building designBluegrass for Babies Park + Vine and resources, waste management, baby care products, and more.

Family Wellness: Visit the Family Wellness Experience to learn about relaxation techniques, skincare (acne products), family financial plans, pediatric health tips, and more.

Let’s get Moving!: Children of all ages will enjoy a variety of movement activities on the lawn including soccer, basketball and more.

Art & Music: Children of all ages will enjoy exploring new instruments, creating new masterpieces, and more.

Toddler Play Experience: The Toddler Play Experience allows parents to enjoy some of the area’s best bluegrass music and a refreshing beverage in a worry free environment. We have created a contained location on the lawn with many of your toddler’s favorite play activities.

All of the participating exhibitors and vendors were handpicked to be a part of the Bluegrass for Babies experience based on their commitment to provide products or services to help create a safe environment to raise healthy children.

“What really sets us apart is that we implement our three pillars of preventative health – nutrition, toxin awareness, and waste management – throughout the Bluegrass for Babies concert. We offer real, non-processed food options like apples, guacamole, and sustainably raised local meats, and feature organic and locally sourced concessions and vendors, as well as family safe skincare products. We also strive to be a zero-waste event, offering water refill stations, creative recycling options, and by composting of all concessions, and service ware.” said Schneider.
