Lexington Mini-Vacation :: In January of 2015 we took the kids to Lexington, KY for a long weekend.  We spent two nights and three days exploring Lexington.  We crammed as much fun as we could into those three days with activities for both the kids and the parents.  Lexington is a perfect place for my family to escape to for a long weekend or even just a day trip because it’s just over an hour away from where we live.  We had such fun on our trip, and the kids are already asking when we’ll be going again.  I’m going to share our adventures with you in a series of installments so you can see pictures from our excursions and maybe find some inspiration for planning your own getaway to Lexington!

Explorium of Lexington ::

Explorium of LexingtonWhen I was in college at the University of Kentucky studying to be a preschool teacher I had the occasion to visit the Explorium of Lexington a couple of times while babysitting children.  I thought it was a pretty cool place for kids to explore, so when we started planning our trip to Lexington I just knew that a visit to the Explorium HAD to be on the agenda.  It was much more fun than I remembered to be, and I think that’s because I was witnessing all the fun through my own children’s eyes.  My four kids roamed the rooms on the two floors of the Explorium checking out life sized bubbles, working at the bank, riding race horses in the Derby, taking care of animals in the Vet’s office, climbing a rock wall, visiting the moon and MORE!  The most amazing thing was that they all four played TOGETHER, without bickering!  So apparently there’s some actual magic going on at the Explorium.  It’s a wonderful place for kids to explore, learn and have lots of hands-on fun.  We spent several hours at the Explorium and the kids were sad to go when it was time, and they begged me to take them back again in the future.  So it seems they are intent on us planning another trip to Lexington!
