Cedar Point & Hotel Breakers in Sandusky, OhioRecently we made our first visit to Sandusky, Ohio for a long weekend spent at the Hotel Breakers.  While much of my time was spent learning great things at the Bloggy Conference, we also spent many hours exploring Cedar Point (known as the Roller Coaster Capitol of the World) getting our thrills on the awesome rides.  I say awesome rides, but in truth I don’t really ride roller coasters, it’s just not my thing.  Ella was worried that I wasn’t having any fun because I wasn’t on the rides, but I actually still had a fantastic time.  I loved watching the excitement on all of their faces as they went from ride to ride and even challenged themselves to try bigger coasters than they have in the past.  Cedar Point is a great amusement park, I cannot believe how much fun stuff they have fit into the space they have to work with on this little peninsula at the top of Ohio!  Take a moment to look at all of the pictures from our weekend below and then get planning your own trip to Cedar Point!

Hotel Breakers:

Hotel Breakers LakesideIf you are planning a long weekend in Sandusky the Hotel Breakers offers wonderful accommodations and is within walking distance to Cedar Point.  Aside from going to the “mainland” for dinner one evening we were able to leave our car in the parking lot all weekend and just walk wherever we were going which was nice.  The hotel was all decked out in Halloween décor, complete with spooky skeletons atop old carousel horses and some horrifying pictures of kids dressed up for Halloween from years and years ago.  My kids loved all the decorations!  The suites at Hotel Breakers are nice and roomy, with a living room, small kitchen area, bathroom, bedroom and our room offered a deck overlooking the gorgeous Lake Erie.  The hotel is sprawling, so we certainly got our exercise in while we were there, but they have a lot to offer.  There’s restaurants (try the Hibachi Grill!), a Starbucks, a lounge, two beautiful lobbies for resting or meeting up with folks, huge fire pits on the Lake Erie side of the hotel, both indoor and outdoor pools, a hot tub and a kid’s splash area, as well as a gym and many other amenities.  They really have a lot to offer!

Dining:

Since we had a kitchen with a fridge and microwave in our room it was easy to feed the kids breakfast each morning without going out to eat.  We did dine out a few times, both inside the Hotel Breakers and in Sandusky.  We had some awesome meals!

HalloWeekends at Cedar Point:

HalloweekendsWe were lucky to be at Cedar Point and Hotel Breakers during the fall because they were celebrating Halloween and had pulled out all the stops.   There were over 10,000 pumpkins and other assorted gourds decorating the park and more than 400 “monsters” had been hired for the season.  It was the biggest Halloween celebration we have ever been to!  Cedar Point has their HalloWeekends set up so that if you want to enjoy the park and have some Halloween fun but NOT be scared you can come earlier in the day before the spooky folks come out, or you can purchase a “No Boo” necklace to wear that signifies to the zombies, creepy clowns and other monsters that wander the park at night that you are not to be frightened.  They have kid friendly Halloween happenings during the day in the kid’s area, and then at 7:45 pm on Fridays and Saturdays a witch calls out from Town Hall for all the spooks to come out to haunt the park.  It was a cool and sort of scary experience…so if you have kids that like thrills but aren’t ready for the haunted houses, this might be for them.  My kids definitely have no interest in haunted houses, but three out of the four of them enjoyed the calling out of the spooks when all of the monsters came running through the crowd trying to share some frights before heading on to their destinations for the evening.
