Slow Cooker Poutine RecipeI have yet to make my way to Canada but I’ve heard many great things about Canadian Poutine.  Poutine is a dish made from French Fries topped with gravy and cheese curds.  It might sound unusual, but once you’ve had it you just might be hooked.  Even though I have yet to try traditional Poutine, we’re lucky enough to have a few local restaurants near us that serve up some mean Poutine with the fries being topped with meat, gravy and cheese.  It’s one of my favorite things to eat.  SO GOOD.  My obsession with the dish led to me finding a way to make it at home.  A friend of a friend named Mercedes caught wind of my quest to find the perfect recipe a few years back and shared her recipe with me.  She has kindly let me share it with you…try it at home and let me know what you think!

Easy Slow Cooker Poutine:

4-5 lbs. beef short ribs
1 c. beef broth
1/2 c. red wine
3 Bay leaves
Salt & Pepper

Beef Gravy (I used Gravy from a Jar)

Cheddar Cheese Curds***

Fries (We bake frozen fries)

Combine the the ribs, broth, red wine, bay leaves and salt & pepper in the Slow Cooker.  Cook on low for six hours, then take the ribs out of the crock pot and shred the meat.  Toss the meat with just a little bit of gravy, I use about two or three spoonfuls.  Keep the meat mixture warm while you cook the fries.  When the fries are ready put a layer of the fries on an oven safe dinner plate.  Top the fries with shredded meat and cheese curds.  Then I put the plate into the oven (350°) for about five minutes, until the cheese melts a little bit.

**I have found the cheese curds at several different vendors who sell cheeses and deli items at Findlay Market and in the fancy Cheese section at my local Kroger.
