24 Hours in Zanesville, OhioSpring Break 2016:  We spent a long weekend travelling to three different cities in Ohio finding unique & interesting places to explore and visit.  We stayed in some awesome hotels, ate some great food and saw so many cool things!  I’ll share our trip with you in a series of installments in the coming weeks to help inspire your own Ohio Road Trip!

Our family is getting pretty good at cramming as much fun as possible into very short amounts of time.  For instance, we spent just twenty four hours in Zanesville over Spring Break and managed to do so many fun things.  If you are ever around Zanesville here’s a list of things you can do to explore the city and surrounding area, even if you are short on time.  And please do leave comments below if you have more ideas for excitement in this small town…we would love to go back and visit someday and do more!

How We Spent 24 Hours in Zanesville:

Eat Nachos! We started our trip with appetizers at Muddy Miser’s while we waited for my cousin to get off of work to hang out with us.  This pile of nachos was scrumptious….I almost wanted to order a second round, but decided we should wait for dinner.

Drink Craft Beer.  Our next stop in Zanesville was Weasel Boy Brewing where we tasted craft beers and after a few hours of catching up ordered a few tasty pizza pies.  This is a great place to hang out in Zanesville, and not just for the craft beer lovers.  Come for the beer but stay for the pizza and the view of the river!  Read more about Weasel Boy in this post.

Step Back in Time at Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl.  Seriously…it’s like going back to the 50’s when you walk in the door.  Old school ice cream counters, homemade fudge and the friendly service you’d expect to find at an old school ice cream parlor.

Feed Horses.  Ok, so this adventure is for those who happen to know someone who spends time on a farm.  While visiting with my cousin David he had to make a stop to feed and take care of his horse.  My kids loved the brief time we were on the farm and made the most of it by feeding the horses, playing with the kittens and watching the goats frolic.

Go Swimming!  During our stay in Zanesville we stayed at the lovely Holiday Inn Express and our accommodations were awesome!  Not only did we have a spacious suite with many amenities, but there was also a pool and best of all a breakfast buffet when we woke up in the morning.  I’d recommend this hotel to anyone staying in this area, we loved it.

Drive Around Town:  If you have time, be sure to drive around Zanesville.  There is some great old architecture, a bridge shaped like a Y (I didn’t get a picture while we were driving over it), antique shops, art galleries and much more.  This was the one thing I felt we could have done more of…exploring the city.  We were limited on time, so while we did drive around to get a look at the town we are saving the art gallery hopping and museum visits for the next trip!

Get Wild.  The last thing we did during our visit to Zanesville was to drive just a little bit out of town to visit the Wilds.  This place was AMAZING.  Simply AMAZING.  We got up close and personal with so many cool wild creatures and made memories that will last forever.  To find out more about the Wilds and see pictures of all the animals we be-friended be sure to visit my blog post: The Wilds.

So there you have it, twenty four hours in Zanesville.  I feel like even though we saw (and ate) so much on this trip that there’s still so much more to explore.  Twenty four hours was fun, but not enough time…I am really hoping to plan another trip to Zanesville with my family in the near future so we can check out more of the arts, and maybe do some fishing or take a nature walk.  This area is full of great things to do!  Remember, leave a comment if you have more ideas for our next trip.
