Broadway in Cincinnati has brought everyone’s favorite witches back to town for a special engagement of WICKED at the Aronoff Center for the Arts.  I read Gregory Maguire’s novel Wicked before it was a big-time Broadway Musical and I fell in love with the tale of two witches.  I was excited to share my copy of the book along with a brand new vinyl copy of the Wicked Soundtrack with Ella before we went to the show.  This week we had a special girl’s night out and she got to see Wicked come to life on the stage.  Unfortunately, I did not give Ella enough time to read the book before the show, so she has now had a few spoilers for the book after seeing the show.  She does not care though, because she loved Wicked so very much.  It has been a few days now since we have seen the show and she has been humming the show tunes constantly ever since.

Wicked is definitely one of my favorites of all the Broadway shows.  It is funny, it is tragic, it is romantic, it is all of the things all at once!  The story is timeless yet definitely poignant for our times right now, and I absolutely love Maquire’s spin on this beloved childhood classic.  The performers, musicians and stage crew all rocked this show, and we were entranced from start to end.  This performance did not disappoint.  If you are a Wizard of Oz fan, or if you just love Broadway musicals then you need to get yourself some tickets to Wicked while it is in town!

Broadway in Cincinnati Presents:  WICKED

Broadway’s biggest blockbuster and Cincinnati’s most popular musical will return to the Aronoff Center September 13 – October 15, 2017 as a season special for the Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Cincinnati’s 17/18 Season presented by TriHealth. Tickets for the return engagement are on sale now and available at the Aronoff Center Box Office downtown at 650 Walnut Street, online at CincinnatiArts.org or by phone at 513.621.ARTS.

The Broadway sensation, WICKED, looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle. Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another young woman, born with emerald-green skin, who is smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships…until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.”

With a thrilling score that includes the hits “Defying Gravity,” “Popular” and “For Good,” WICKED has been hailed by The New York Times as “the defining musical of the decade,” and by Time Magazine as “a magical Broadway musical with brains, heart, and courage.”

WICKED will play the Aronoff Center from September 13 – October 15, 2017: Tuesday – Thursday at 7:30PM, Thursday September 14 at 1:00PM, Friday at 8:00PM, Saturday at 2:00PM and 8:00PM, Sunday at 1:00PM and 6:30PM. Tickets start at $42.50. They are available at the Aronoff Center Box Office downtown at 650 Walnut Street, online at CincinnatiArts.org or by phone at 513.621.ARTS.
