Each Christmas I get together with the ladies in my family and we spend an entire day baking sweet treats to share with friends and family. It’s always a special day, filled with laughter, flour, reminiscing, icing and love. This year we made buckeyes, oatmeal chocolate chip cranberry cookies (thank you Anna!), peppermint bark, oreo truffles, funfetti cookies (thanks Haley!), chocolate covered pretzels, and of course, everyone’s favorite: sugar cookies decked out with icing, candies, and sprinkles. I love watching our decorators pull out all the stops with their designs. I thought I would share my sugar cookie dough recipe with you. What are you baking this holiday season?
Sugar Cookies
1 1/3 cups Butter
1 ½ cups Sugar
2 tsp. Vanilla
2 Eggs
2 ½ Tbs. Milk
4 cups Flour
3 tsp. Baking Powder
½ tsp. Salt
Mix all ingredients well, divide dough into halves (or even quarters) and put in Ziploc bags. Chill for one hour (I’ve chilled overnight). On a floured surface roll out dough (about 1/8 – ¼ inch) and cut with your favorite cookie cutters. Bake on a greased cookie sheet for 7-8 minutes at 375 degrees. Cool and then decorate.
