When we travel I love to find locally owned restaurants to visit for meals. Recently we happened upon The Wrigley Taproom in Corbin, Kentucky on our way to Pine Mountain State Park. This restaurant was fantastic! They offer an ever changing menu full of items that are made with locally sourced ingredients. Their beer menu also changes frequently (24 taps!) and had some really interesting selections. In fact the bartender suggested that I mix Rivertown Pumpkin with Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale and it was an unforgettable concoction. It was a perfect fall beer to kick off our weekend getaway without the kids.
I dined on the Commonwealth Burger at Wrigley, and Michael opted for their grilled cheese. We both were pleased with our meal and the flight of beers we shared. The food was delicious and the ambiance was truly unique. Long long ago the space now occupied by the restaurant was actually an outdoor space between two buildings. And on the side of one building there was an ad for Wrigley’s Spearmint Gum. Somewhere along the way the outdoor space was turned into a building and the vintage Wrigley’s ad remained. While the Wrigley ad is the highlight and namesake, the restaurant is full of all kinds of other vintage kitschy treasures. Leaving the Wrigley all I could think was that I wished this awesome eatery was closer to my house. I am already wondering when we will be driving that way again so we can stop for a bite.
