It’s officially “party season”…there are football parties, holiday parties, office parties and for our family there’s game night parties. We have been making Bacon Jalapeno Popper Appetizers lately for parties (and even as a side dish for dinner once or twice) and they are quite popular. So popular in fact, that they often disappear within minutes of us putting them on the table. The jalapeno + bacon + cream cheese combination is to die for! And these have just a little bit of kick, so have your drink handy!
Bacon Jalapeno Popper Appetizers in 4 Easy Steps:
- Slice Jalapenos longways and scoop out the innards.
- Spread cream cheese on the inside of jalapenos.
- Wrap a half of a slice of un-cooked bacon around the jalapeno. We use a toothpick to keep it all together.
- Bake at 400° for 15-20 minutes (until bacon is cooked). If you check on them and it appears the top is more cooked than the bottom you could flip them and bake a few more minutes. If the oven is full these cook well in the toaster oven too!
*** Important note – be sure to wash your hands after handling the raw jalapenos! And DO NOT touch your eyes until you’ve thoroughly washed your hands. I speak from experience, it’s a pain like no other. Michael prefers to wear gloves while making these to keep the jalapeno juice off his fingers.
For a more in-depth tutorial on how to make this appetizer visit The Pioneer Woman’s website, she has some amazing photography to go along with her recipe posts. There are many popper recipes out there, but PW’s is the closest to the way we make them…I noticed in some of the recipes out there that people add shredded cheddar on top of the cream cheese. We’ll have to try that out sometime!
