Lent begins this week, and with it comes the tradition of eating Fish on Fridays. We eat fish all year long because we love seafood, but we get especially excited about it during Lent. It’s the best time of year to indulge in some delicious fried fish! Each year during Lent Izzy’s serves up their own tasty Cod sandwich that is perfect when paired with a potato pancake (or slaw if that’s your thing). Our local Izzy’s is one of our favorite places to eat or to pick up dinner on a busy night, and I can’t wait to go this week and grab a Cod sandwich. Izzy’s Cod Lenten Special is Back
Izzy’s special cod sandwich meal available February 10 – March 23, 2016 The Cod-Father has returned to the Tri-State! Lent is just around the corner and Izzy’s own John Geisen is taking on his alter-ego as “The Cod-Father” to bring back Izzy’s annual favorite, the Cod Lenten Special.
Offered throughout the Lenten season, the Cod Lenten Special features a North Atlantic cod filet battered with Izzy’s special blend of 17 seasonings and spices, on a Kaiser bun garnished with lettuce and tartar sauce. The sandwich is served with choice of potato pancake or coleslaw for $6.99.
In addition to the Cod Lenten Special, Izzy’s offers a variety of other Lent-friendly options on its menu including tuna and egg salad sandwiches, veggie and cod Reubens, and more.
Tuna Melt $7.99: All-white albacore homemade tuna salad served open faced on whole wheat bread with melted imported Swiss cheese. Served with pasta salad
Veggie Reuben $7.99: Olive topilóv with diced fresh tomatoes piled high with sauerkraut and melted imported Swiss cheese on a toasted telera roll.
Boneless Cod $8.89: Cod battered with Izzy’s special blend of seasonings on rye bread with tartar sauce.
Cod Reuben $9.29: Battered cod, homemade spicy tartar sauce and sweet-n-sour coleslaw topped with melted American cheese on rye toast.
Tuna Salad Sandwich (All White) $7.49: All-white albacore homemade tuna salad mixed with sweet relish, topped with lettuce and tomato on a toasted telera roll.
Egg Salad Sandwich $6.49: Homemade with spicy mustard, mayo and a pinch of special seasonings, topped with lettuce and tomato on rye toast.
Tuna Wrap $7.99: All-white albacore tuna salad with lettuce, diced tomatoes and melted imported Swiss cheese.
