As if I didn’t already have enough reasons to love Izzy’s, it recently came to my attention that they host Beer Pairing Dinners. Each dinner features a special menu and a beer pairings provided by a different brewery at each pairing. For $25 you receive an appetizer, main dish and dessert and all three courses are paired with a craft brew. At the end of the night you’ve gotten to try three different brews, had a delicious dinner AND you get to keep the beer glass you were served in. I’d say you really get a bang for your buck!
The night that we attended the Beer Pairing Dinner at Izzy’s in Fort Wright they were featuring beers from Carson’s Brewery, a craft microbrewery located in Evansville, Indiana. Before the dinner I had not tried any beers from Carson’s, and I love to try new beers, so I was pretty excited. The menu for the evening featured all new items as well, so we were in for an evening of trying new things. The three Carson’s Brewery beers we tried were Brown Cow, Red Dawn and RIPA. I liked all three beers, but my favorite was the Brown Cow, I need to find some around here to bring home!
For dinner they started with Shrimp Cocktail for the appetizer, and my husband said it was very good. I opted for a cup of soup instead of the shrimp. Apparently if you don’t care for something on the pre-set menu for the evening you may make a substitution from the full menu. They were running low on the shrimp cocktail, and I’m not a huge fan so I was more than happy to try the Beef Barley soup and it was delicious! For dinner we had Izzy’s Pastrami Mex and it was sooooo good! And of course they served the sandwich with their famous potato pancake. It wouldn’t be a trip to Izzy’s without a potato pancake! They topped off the meal by serving Cinnamon and Powdered Sugar Churros for dessert – I was in heaven! They were the perfect sweet ending for this tasty meal.
Izzy’s hosts Beer Dinners monthly, sometimes at the Fort Wright location and sometimes at the Florence location. You can find out about upcoming Beer Dinners by visiting the Izzy’s website or by signing up for the Izzy’s Email List. I highly recommend the Beer Dinner, and not just for a date night. If you take your family the kids can order off of the regular menu while you enjoy the special meal and beer pairings for the evening. This is a great way to try different food and craft beers. Plus you leave with a beer glass to remember the night by! It won’t be long before we head to another beer dinner at Izzy’s, we really had a great time.
