Spring Break 2016: We spent a long weekend travelling to three different cities in Ohio finding unique & interesting places to explore and visit. We stayed in some awesome hotels, ate some great food and saw so many cool things! I’ll share our trip with you in a series of installments in the coming weeks to help inspire your own Ohio Road Trip!
Merry Go Round Museum ~
Who doesn’t love a Merry Go Round? Over Spring Break we visited one of the most unique museums in Ohio, The Merry Go Round Museum in Sandusky. An old post office right in the middle of town has a found a new life as a museum honoring the artistry of wooden merry go rounds. Quite frankly this old building seems like it was destined to house a merry go round.
At the Merry Go Round Museum you can ride the carousel, see a variety of antique merry go round animals, and best of all you can watch carvers work their magic. The carvers are amazing artisans who do both restorations of vintage pieces and create new wooden horses. And they do this work right there on the Museum floor so that visitors can watch and talk to them about the work. Admission to the museum and donations go towards the restorations projects going on at the museum. If you find yourself anywhere near Sandusky make a stop at the Merry Go Round Museum, and be sure to take the tour if it’s available, because you will learn some really interesting things about the history of Merry Go Rounds!
The Merry Go Round Museum is located at 301 Jackson Street in Sandusky.
