I am usually not one to shop off of baby registries, because I prefer to try to come up with unique baby shower gift ideas. And most of the time these unique baby shower gifts involve books. I am a preschool teacher and a big advocate for early literacy, so I sometimes use baby shower gifts to push my passion of early childhood literacy and language on to others.
Unique Baby Shower Gift Ideas
Over the years not all of my baby shower gifts have included a book, but recently I have tried to make sure to include at least one book in every shower gift. Sometimes I build my gifts around a theme or the book I am giving. I also love handmade creations as gifts. Here are a few of my favorite unique baby shower gifts we have given over the years, please share your ideas in the comments below!
Zoo Themed Baby Shower Gift:
I love going with a Zoo theme because there are so many options for books to pair with the gift! Here are a few of my favorite books, I paired one with zoo toys and the other gift included zoo themed sleepers.
Kentucky Themed Baby Shower Gift:
Represent your state or community! I bought the Y’all shirt & UK socks from the Village Gifts KY in the Main Strasse Village, the book came from Joseph Beth Booksellers and the pretty pink KY shirt came from MK’s Totebags & Monogramming, also located in Main Strasse in Covington. She always has an amazing selection of personalized baby gifts!
Rock & Roll Baby Shower Gifts:
Ella and I put together a collection of rock themed gifts for my sister’s baby shower. It was probably the most fun baby shower collection I’ve ever put together. Ella insisted on a noisy Guitar toy, I am a teacher so of course there are books with a rock and roll theme and then I found some adorable shirts on Etsy. I was so excited about the Let’s Dance book that I bought one for my preschool classroom as well!
Dr. Seuss themed Baby Shower Gifts:
I found this sleeper on Amazon, and Melissa & Doug makes this cute little sea creature bath set. I have also done an Eric Carle themed gift but forgot to get a picture!
Taco Themed Baby Shower Gift:
This one wasn’t a baby shower gift. I got a little giddy when I found out I was going to be an aunt again and put together a collection of taco themed gifts for my sister to celebrate her pregnancy.
Ice Cream Sundae Baby Gift:
This gift is super easy to put together and even if there are not receiving blankets, bowls or washcloths on the baby registry these are all items you can never have too many of when baby comes along. Check out my Ice Cream Sundae Baby Gift tutorial!
The Perfect Way to Wrap Your Baby Shower Gift:
I received one of the KeaBabies Diaper Bag Backpack, Waterproof Multi Function Baby Travel Bags for review purposes and I used it to hold all of the wrapped gifts for my sister’s baby shower. This backpack was AWESOME! There was so much storage space and it didn’t look like a regular diaper bag, just a trendy backpack. I feel like if I could fit in 6 wrapped gifts in this backpack then a parent could fit a whole lot of baby supplies to take on the go.
I am not going to lie, I wish we had owned this backpack when we had babies. I love all of the storage space and little pockets everywhere. Our backpack diaper bag years ago was nowhere near as functional and stylish as this one. And to top it off, the price is very reasonable if you want to get one to gift a friend or add to your baby supply collection. I do believe this is the coolest way that I have given gifts at a baby shower – so much better than an expensive gift bag!
